We are relatively new here to Vashon but know a lot of people on the Island . We live on the south end and decided to support local business so we started bringing our vehicles to Burton Auto. They seem to be ok generally, always busy and difficult to set up appointments. Anyway my wife Jan had her car serviced Wednesday with 4 new tires and a serpentine belt. All seemed well until the next morning Thursday 21st January 2021 when my wife called me to inform me that she had broken down along the water in Tacoma while heading to work. I had to take the ferry to see if I could help or assertain what the problem was. Low and behold the serpentine belt was not there.

Obviously I called and talked to Patrick as I always do and he said they would take caree of it. Knowing that the car had to be towed I took that as they would cover the cost of towing and because I had an appointment in Tacoma I assumed they would make sure my wife got home ok. This was obviously their problem we had paid for the work the day before in full. When my wife got there they refused to pay any of the towing $500 costs (due to their incompetence) and to top it off told my wife she would have to make her own arrangements to get home from there. Luckily the tow truck driver had not left yet so he drove her home. A serpentine belt takes less than an hour to replkace and as of now 11:15 on Friday 22nd we have not received a call about the when the car will be ready for pick up.

The lack of customer service and complete disregard for the trouble and stress this has and is causing us is unconscionable. We will not be using their service again and I am filing a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General Consumer Priotection Agency

Wow, that’s quite a story. If you leave a review on their listing it would help others to know as well.

I also had a less than satisfactory experience with Burton Auto. I took my car there for an oil change in September before I went off island, since I was overdue for an oil change. The day after my oil change, I took the Tahlequah Ferry to Tacoma. As I was driving south on I-5 my low oil light came on. I exited at the next exit, bought a quart of oil and poured it in. After arriving at my destination, a pool of oil formed under my car (I hadn’t noticed the leak on my gravel drive at home). I took the car back to Burton Auto the next day and watched them remove the cover from underneath my car to access the oil drain. Oil had collected in this cover because they had failed to tighten the oil drain plug. They told me they tightened the plug and proceeded to screw the cover back on the underside of the car without cleaning it at all, despite the fact that it was filled with oil. They told me they topped off the oil, although I did not witness this. The next day, driving into town, my low oil light came on AGAIN, confirming that they did not add any oil. So, I paid for an oil change that ran out on the highway, damaged my car, and I had to purchase and put in two quarts of oil myself. They told me they also topped off all the other fluids, but a quick check confirmed that was not the case. Shortly before I had my oil changed there, they recommended a $1,500 repair to my husband’s car – you can bet we won’t be having that work done at Burton Auto.
